Located between Broad Creek and the Atlantic Ocean near Singleton, Collier, and Burkes beaches, the Chaplin community thrived in the early 1900s. Residents engaged in farming, fishing, and crafts such as basket weaving and cast net making. The area hosted community events and provided access to several beaches. The Central Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, once the site of a one-room schoolhouse, is a notable landmark in Chaplin.
